Discover Howie's Cafe & Patisserie

When you walk into Howie's Cafe & Patisserie in Smiths Station, AL, you are immediately welcomed by the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked pastries and the delicious smell of sizzling comfort food. Located at 9109-9153 Mullin Rd, Smiths Station, this charming spot quickly becomes a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're stopping in for a hearty breakfast or grabbing a sweet treat after a long day, Howie's is the place to be.

As you step inside, the cozy ambiance sets the tone for a relaxed dining experience. The cafe’s interior is a perfect blend of modern and rustic, with wooden accents and soft lighting creating a comfortable atmosphere. The menu at Howie's is filled with mouth-watering options, each dish crafted with care to bring out the best in local ingredients. If you're looking for a place that feels like home, yet offers something a bit special, this is the spot.

For breakfast, you can’t go wrong with the classic eggs and bacon combo. It’s simple, but the quality of the ingredients shines through. The eggs are perfectly cooked, and the bacon is crisp, yet tender. If you're in the mood for something a bit sweeter, the French toast is a must-try. Golden and fluffy, it’s served with a generous dusting of powdered sugar and a side of maple syrup that is just the right level of sweetness. Pair it with a freshly brewed coffee, and you’ve got yourself a breakfast that will keep you coming back.

What truly sets Howie’s Cafe apart is the attention to detail in their baked goods. The patisserie section of the menu is filled with a variety of pastries that will make any sweet tooth happy. From buttery croissants to decadent chocolate éclairs, each pastry is made fresh every morning. On a recent visit, I couldn’t resist trying the almond croissant. It was flaky and rich, with just the right amount of almond filling. The perfect balance of textures made it a standout on the menu.

Another crowd favorite is the café's quiche. A great option for lunch or a light meal, it features a delicate crust that holds a savory filling of eggs, cheese, and vegetables. Whether you go for the classic spinach and cheese or something more adventurous like bacon and mushroom, the quiche is a great choice if you're looking for a savory bite.

While the food is outstanding, the service at Howie's Cafe & Patisserie deserves special mention. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to make recommendations if you’re unsure what to try. On my last visit, the waitress recommended the seasonal berry tart, which turned out to be a perfect end to my meal. The tart had just the right amount of tang from the fresh berries, complemented by the buttery, flaky crust and smooth custard filling.

The cafe is also known for its variety of beverages. From freshly brewed coffees to teas and specialty lattes, there’s something for everyone. A personal favorite is the iced caramel latte, which is the perfect balance of creamy and sweet without being overwhelming. If you’re looking for something more refreshing, the café’s homemade lemonades are the perfect thirst quencher.

Located in a quiet part of Smiths Station, Howie's Cafe & Patisserie offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you're popping in for a quick coffee, a delicious breakfast, or a leisurely lunch, you’ll always find something to suit your mood. The blend of quality food, a warm atmosphere, and exceptional service make it a true gem in the area.

Howie’s doesn’t just serve food; it creates an experience that leaves you feeling satisfied, whether you’re enjoying a leisurely morning or a quick lunch break. With a menu full of options that cater to all tastes, there’s no reason not to visit. You’ll always leave feeling content and looking forward to your next visit. Whether you’re local or just passing through, Howie’s is the kind of place that makes you feel right at home.

  • (Review seen on Yelp) Howie's Cafe was the very first food establishment we tried when we moved into our home in Salem, AL. The only initial downfall we experienced was that they stopped serving breakfast at 11 and we got there a few minutes after, craving breakfast food! However, we ordered our lunch to go and it was not disappointing. My husband got the Buffalo chicken tender sandwich and I got the country fried steak with their cornbread and greens (one of the best greens I've ever had). Since then, we have ordered breakfast food to go twice and it has been some of the best. Our go-to breakfast has been: Big Boy Breakfast with sausage patties + scrambled eggs Country fried steak with gravy on the side, hash browns, and pancakes You HAVE to try this place and the women who work here are so sweet!
